About LoreCrafted

LoreCrafted is a World of Warcraft blog focused around the world’s story and lore.  Every few days you will find posts regarding new lore topics, reviews of existing lore sources (books, games, comics, etc), and opinions on all things concerning World of Warcraft’s rich world and history.

This site was started by Richard “Tharion Greyseer” Powell, a roleplayer and lore junkie on the Earthen Ring US server.  Tharion is the guild master of the Netherbane, a small demon hunter oriented roleplaying guild on that same server.  More information can be found at the Netherbane site.  Also, feel free to follow @greyseer on Twitter.

You can email LoreCrafted through Tharion’s email address: tharion.greyseer@gmail.com.

Site FAQ

Here is the Frequently Asked Questions page.  If a question is asked enough, it will be added here.  This means you should feel free to ask questions!

Why a Lore Blog?

Tharion Greyseer: Warcraft lore is sacred to me and many people I game with.  However, I’ve noticed that it’s treated as an afterthought or “supplemental” to many of the popular Warcraft sites out there.  I felt that Azeroth’s lore needed it’s own coverage, since it’s always in flux.

LoreCrafted was designed not just to be a repository for pure lore (WoWWiki has that covered rather well), but to be a discussion site for lore and its changes.  There have been major retcons in almost every Warcraft game release, and when combined with the tabletop sourcebooks, the novels, the comics, and all other pieces of story-related media, the lore of the game can get very confusing.

LoreCrafted is a place that will cover these changes and their impact on the rest of the world’s backstory.

What are your sources?

Tharion Greyseer: My sources are varied.  Aside from the requisite experience with the Warcraft RTS games and the World of Warcraft MMO and its expansions, I also own every known book from the tabletop RPG (the first edition Warcraft setting for Dungeons and Dragons as well as the updated World of Warcraft edition), own every novel published under the Warcraft and World of Warcraft titles, and am an active subscriber to the World of Warcraft comic.  In addition, I attend BlizzCon every opportunity I get and sit in on any lore discussions with Chris Metzen and crew.

In short, I do my best to grasp as many sources of lore of which I am aware.

So what qualifies you to discuss Warcraft lore?

Tharion Greyseer: Anyone can discuss Warcraft lore, to be honest.  I started this blog to provide myself with a place to explore the various lore topics that come up.  I am also passionate about Warcraft’s background story.  I’m a freelance world designer in my spare time, having written for other MMOs and tabletop supplements.  However, this doesn’t make me any more or less qualified to “discuss Warcraft lore” than anyone else out there.  I just thought this would be a fun idea for a blog, ya know?

Simply put, I’m passionate about it.  Will I always be correct?  Heck no.  I’ll learn alongside everyone else who enjoys lore.

If you enjoy our writing style, feel free to keep visiting.  If you don’t, or if you don’t trust my posts, then feel free to skip this site on your next surfing session.

So what’s this demon hunter stuff about?

Tharion Greyseer: First and foremost in WoW, I am the guild leader of a small roleplaying guild on the Earthen Ring US server.  It’s called the Netherbane and it’s been around since mid-2005.

I have a passion for the demon hunters of the Warcraft setting, and it’s been my personal roleplay choice for almost the entire run of this game.  I don’t wish to take up too much LoreCrafted space discussing this, however, since a visit to the Netherbane forums can usually answer any questions you may have regarding my characters.
